Uit magazine motortrader.com van '98:
"Renault's design director Patrick Le Quement is pursuing the holy grail of making a credible French luxury car, and the company's Vel Satis concept car gives serious clues to his thinking. Elements of Vel Satis will appear on two planned up-market cars due in the early part of the next century, while much of the styling of the 1995 Initiale concept will appear in the next-generation Laguna, due next year.
The new large cars will not be replacements for Safrane, he said, but will attempt to define a true large French car. Le Quement said his inspiration for the Vel Satis name was Facel Vega, the French maker of performance luxury cars in the 1950 and '60s. The front-end treatment of Vel Satis was inspired by the shape of a classic record-breaking Renault race car of the 1920s - which was housed in the Renault design centre. "I saw the car every morning," said Le Quement."
Opmerkelijk stukje tekst, althans, ik wist dit niet. Facel Vega, daar zou men nieuw leven in moeten blazen. En als men die Le Quement bij Renault baas zou maken, dan krijg je volgens mij de mooiste ontwerpen. Hij lijkt zich weinig aan te trekken van trends.
